Most of what you will find on my website are projects that I have made on my scrollsaw. Some are simply - or not so simply - sawn with one piece of wood. Others, as you will see in the section under "Intarsia," are single projects made from many different types of wood.
You will also find a section on band saw boxes, which are so fun to make they border on addicting, and a section displaying my finished works from the lathe, such as pens.
Be sure to check out the "Links" page which will point you to a variety of very talented artists and some handy resources.
Click on either the underlined titles or the picture to take you to the page with more projects of that type.
Intarsia
Intarsia is a process of cutting out a project with different types of wood, using the grain of the wood to help define the project. In my intarsia projects, I use no paints or stains to add color. This type of project rates right up there as one of my favorites to do.
Band Saw Boxes
Band saw boxes are my other fave. I took a Woodcraft class and got hooked on making these. They are especially fun for me because, even though I cannot draw, the shape of the box can be any shape that can be dreamed up and even my simple drawing abilities can draw unique outlines.
Scroll Saw Fretwork
The scroll saw projects on this page vary in theme, from religious angels and crosses to animal life. Be sure to also see the page devoted to the portraits (people and animal) and puzzles.
Scroll Saw Portraits
Portraits are my biggest challenge, since evenstick figures look pathetic when I draw them. This one (me), I did by placing the picture on a light box and drawing and erasing and drawing and erasing.
Take a look at my husband's finished portrait to see why I chose to do his first.
Scroll Saw Puzzles
Oh, my gosh, fun!! My mom has oodles of these made by Tony and June Burns (see Links) and she has them sitting on the top of door and window frames in the house. They are quick to make and great if you need a gift for someone yesterday. Most are painted, however, some look great "plain," like this unicorn.
Lathe Work
Anything from a box, like the one pictured here, to peppermills and pens. Be careful about taking any classes at places like the Woodcraft stores: I did and ended up driving home with a mini-lathe in the back of my car. Oops!
Visit My Workshop
Take a tour through my workshop. Almost all of the machines and workstations are on casters so that I can wheel them outside. Perfect for the warm, sunny days we get here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This was the only day in history that my shop didn't have any sawdust in it!
